![]() This makes using bots rather pointless to figure out what keys are legit, and they would risk having their own account banned and locked if it was found to just be testing a bunch of keys.Ī bot maker comes along and makes a program to start generating keys and put them in a list, this is something thats super easy to do and you can literally make a list of a billion keys in order in seconds. Valve makes those keys and keeps a list of them so that they know when its put into Steam its a legit key.Ĭurrently because you can't know what game it is just by looking at the key so when its put in it either fails or is accepted and added to the account that its being put into. They ask for a list of say 50,000 keys so that they can sell them on other stores along with on Steam. Bots are GREAT at making stuff like this.ĭeveloper/publisher makes a game and puts it on Steam. No reason those sites can't tell you what the code is for AFTER you win it, so go ask them or those people to change.ĭo you know what a key is? Its a bunch of random numbers and letters put together. ![]() Random give aways of a code with no clue what game it's for is not a steam feature, so don't expect ste to change just to support shady sites that do that. They don't allow it because bots can then spam the redeem window until they hit a key combination that is a real key and then they sell that key. There are millions of keys out there for instance sitting in retail boxes of games. No one said keys are made by bits, just that they are guessed by bots. eh? btw keys can't be made by bots, keys need to be activated by Devs to work so tf are you saying?ĭifferent thing it's bots steal keys but a bot making a key? this is the most stupid thing I heard in this year. If GOG wants to do that, its up to them, this is the reason why Valve doesn't do it. Originally posted by Gwarsbane:Not going to happen because then bots will be made to randomly make keys and then test them to see if they are legit or not. Aren't random key giveaways usually from nefarious sources? No idea, but nefarious or not are still giveways from website or discord servers and sometimes when you purchase a game from official stores they are wrong and give you the wrong product like original/remastered games that get mixed and happened to me a lot of times, but the thing is this topic is not about nefarious stuff idk why ppl always start to talk off topic but well. ![]() There are something called ''Giveaways with Random Game Keys'' so you don't know which game it's right? oh wait I know your answer already: ''just redeem it and you will know it'' and what if it's a game that you don't like and you don't want to redeem it? oh wait I know your next answer as well: ''just removed it from your account'' why that? is just a waste right? if you could know what game it's, you can make a giveaway or give it to your friend instead of wasting the key right? and btw the way you assume things by your own it's hilarious lmao. Seems like you lake of knowledge and you just assume things by your own, good let me give you some of free knowledge. Why do you not now what products you're trying to activate? This sounds an awful lot like you're yoinking product keys from other people via nefarious means and just spam activating. Even most of the sites that sell keys obtained by nefarious means still identify the product they represent. I'm sure this change will really improve Steam and satisfy a lot of users. It will be very useful to know what games you are going to redeem before fully redeem them, cuz sometimes you get a random key and you don't know which game it's, and you feel so frustrated without knowing what game you gonna redeem and either when you already own a game but you don't know for which game is the key you are redeeming for.
